Grammar in a Nutshell is an online resource that teaches all aspects of English Grammar, allowing teachers and students of all ages to learn English Grammar in an engaging and interesting manner in a class setting or from the comfort of their own home. Grammar In a Nutshell is ideal for teacher professional development and all students aged 8 - 18 who are learning English Grammar. It is also helpful for adults and teachers of any age who 'missed out' on formal grammar during their schooling. With the assistance of an English-speaking mentor, it is especially useful for migrants, ethnic groups and international students.

What devices can be used to operate Grammar In a Nutshell?

All of the lessons, exercises and tests in Grammar In a Nutshell are 980 pixels wide, so are ideal for all computers or tablets. Because this online course has been written to run on any web browser, it can be operated on all PCs, Macs, iPads, tablets and chromebooks. All of the other pages are responsive design, so can be viewed on a smart phone to gain an understanding of what this online course provides.

How do I recover my password?

Click on the "Log In" button in the header bar and the click on the "Forgotten Password?" button. Please enter your email address and press send. If your email address is not recognised, please contact us at support@grammarinanutshell.com and provide your name and as much information as possible so we can recover your log in details.

Where is the data stored?

The Grammar In A Nutshell server is located in a secure data centre in Sydney NSW Australia and is PCI DSS Compliant.

Is the spelling/grammar correct for my country?

Grammar in a Nutshell dynamically changes the spelling to be correct for the selected country. If you wish to operate in a different country mode from the address selected please contact support@grammarinanutshell.com and we will be happy to change the country mode.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I've lost my invoice, how do I get a replacement?

Your invoice can be downloaded from your account page. Once paid, your invoice will be updated to show a zero outstanding amount and include a receipt reference if paid by credit card.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Payment can be made by Credit Card, EDConnect for NSW public Schools or direct bank deposit. For Credit Card or EDConnect go to the Account page and select that option next to the invoice you wish to pay. If paying by EDConnect please used an order number starting with a "4".

Are my results kept confidential?

Yes. All results and personal information are kept very secure and confidential. The data centre in located in Sydney.

I have registered for Professional Development. How long do I have to complete Grammar In A Nutshell?

You can take as long as you like to complete the course. Remember, you need to undertake 50 hours of accredited Professional Development over 5 years (or 7 years if employed part time) so it is good practice to complete at least 10 hours a year to keep on top of your requirements.

Do I get 16 hours accreditation even though it took me less that 16 hours to complete the course?

Yes. The course has been assessed at 16 hours to complete and it remains available as a reference resource so no matter how long you took to complete the course you are accredited 16 hours.

If it takes me longer than 16 hours to complete the course do I get accreditation for the extra hours?

No. The course has been assessed at 16 hours to complete and it remains available as a reference resource so no matter how long you took to complete the course you are accredited 16 hours.

Do I need to get a certain pass mark to get my accreditation?

No. All that is required to receive your accreditation is to complete the course.

Can I see my results?

Yes. The results page shows you the score and you are able to see the detailed results by selecting the view result on each task.

Can I revisit any tasks?

Yes. You can revisit any lessons, exercises or assessment tasks at any time.

After I have completed an assessment task can I complete it again If I am not satisfied with my result?

Yes, you can complete any assessment task as many times as you wish. Once complete you can review your results and see your answers and the correct results.

Do I need to complete all the lessons in order?

No. Grammar In a Nutshell is designed to be totally flexible so any lessons, exercises or assessment tasks can be accessed in any order.

How do I get access to the Evaluation Form?

Once you have completed all the assessments the Evaluation Form will automatically unlock. Once the form is completed and payment received, you will have completed the Professional Development and your accreditation will be uploaded to the eTAMS website.

SCHOOLS AND EDUCATORS

How does the Grammar In a Nutshell licence work for schools, colleges and universities?

When an educational institution registers to use Grammar In a Nutshell they are committing to an annual licence for the number of users (including teachers and students) who will use Grammar In a Nutshell during that year starting on the commencement date specified during registration. When the educator registration is complete, an email is sent to the educator with an invoice attached. The payments terms for this invoice is 30 days from invoice date. The educator can then use the Class Management section of Grammar In A Nutshell to upload individually, or via a CSV file, the students who will be using this online course. A reminder email will be sent to the registering educator one month prior to the annual expiry inviting them to renew their annual licence from their My Account page. The size of the annual licence can be varied up or down on renewal. If the licence size needs to be varied during the year, please contact us. The renewal is not automatic, so if not renewed, the licence will expire on the anniversary of the commencement date. There are no refunds on this annual subscription except as outlined in the Returns Policy.

Can I download the students' results?

Yes. From the class management page you can download the results in an overview or detailed format that can be imported in to a spreadsheet for student reporting.

Can I easily add a class to Grammar In A Nutshell?

Yes. On the class management page you can upload a class using a CSV file. The format of the csv file is shown on the help page and is firstname, lastname, email, password, class.

Can I use Google Classroom with Grammar In A Nutshell?

Yes. Grammar In A Nutshell allows logon using Google Classroom. Just use the Google Classroom logo in the header to add a link into a google class after registering the school using Google Classroom to register.

How do I register using Google Classroom?

If you use Google Classroom with a dedicated domain for your organisation then simply click on the Google Login on the login page and login using your Google Classroom Account. This will take you to a registration page to set up your organisation. You must be a teacher or administrator level to use this option.

HOMESCHOOLS

How does the Grammar In a Nutshell licence work for homeschools?

When a homeschool parent registers to use Grammar In a Nutshell they are committing to an annual licence for their children (not including themselves) who will use Grammar In a Nutshell during that year starting from the date of registration. The parent can use the Student Management section to enter their children's names and to monitor their progress through the course. A reminder email will be sent to the homeschool parent one month prior to the annual expiry inviting them to renew their annual licence from their My Account page. The size of the annual licence can be varied up or down on renewal. If the licence size needs to be varied during the year, please contact us. The renewal is not automatic, so if not renewed, the licence will expire on the anniversary of the commencement date. There are no refunds on this annual subscription except as outlined in the Returns Policy.

How do I register and pay if I live outside Australia?

We recommend registering via the Home School Buyers Co-op if you live outside Australia.

SELF STUDY

How does the Grammar In a Nutshell licence work for self-study individuals?

Self-study individuals can purchase a licence for a one-off cost of A$220.00. The person will be asked to enter their credit card details during the registration process. There are no refunds on this one-off purchase except as outlined in the Returns Policy.
